Pete Amaro, Legal Intern

Pete is the vice president of the Environmental Law Society at the Georgetown University Law Center, where he is beginning his second year. Prior to law school, he worked as an executive assistant for an educational non-profit organization. Pete graduated from Columbia University in 2006 with a degree in Comparative Literature and Society. His projects at Coastkeeper include researching current Hydromodification Plan proposals and the state of Low-Impact Development in the San Diego region. As a San Diego native, he spends much free time surfing and otherwise enjoying California’s coastal resources.

 

Fidelia Chieng, Legal Intern

Fidelia has just finished her first year at UCLA School of Law, where she plans to focus on environmental law. She is an Articles Editor of the Journal of Environmental Law and Policy as well as a member of the Environmental Law Society at UCLA. She graduated from the University of California San Diego with a degree in Biology-Ecology, Behavior and Evolution. In college, Fidelia conducted independent research at Hubbs-SeaWorld Research Institute for half a year where she studied the social hierarchy and behaviors of the captive killer whales at SeaWorld, San Diego. At Coastkeeper, Fidelia is currently working on projects involving Chula Vista urban runoff and Shipyard Sediment Remediation issues.

 

Reed Gallogly, Legal Intern

Reed will begin his 2nd year at Santa Clara University Law School in the fall, where his focus is environmental law. Before that, Reed worked in apparel manufacturing and corporate buying after graduating Stanford University in 2004 with a B.A. in Political Science. With several years in the work force under his belt, Reed returned to school to enter a profession allowing him to work on issues he finds personally motivating: environmental protection. At Coastkeeper, Reed is working on projects involving urban runoff, water quality and toxic waterways, and he is excited about learning litigation strategy and preparation.

 

Leslie Gaunt, Legal Intern

Leslie is the treasurer of the Environmental Law Society at California Western School of Law, where she is a third year student. She is an associate editor for the CWSL Law Review/International Law Journal and is focusing on pursuing a career in non-profit environmental law. Leslie received a B.S. in political science from California State University, Northridge. At Coastkeeper, Leslie is currently working on seawater desalination issues and looks forward to learning more about environmental advocacy and protecting the world's oceans.

 

Mary Kate Oehrlein, Legal Intern

Mary Kate is in her third year at University of San Diego School of Law, where she is focusing on environmental law and is actively involved in the Environmental Law Society as well as the Environmental Clinic. She received her undergraduate degree at San Diego State University, where she majored in Political Science and Philosophy. At Coastkeeper, Mary Kate is looking forward to working on water quality issues and expanding her knowledge of environmental advocacy and litigation.

 

Quinn Read, Legal Intern

Quinn is currently in her third year of law school at the University of San Diego, where she is concentrating her studies on environmental and energy law. She is a member of USD’s National Moot Court Team, and would like to contribute to the community as an environmental litigator. Prior to law school, Quinn worked for the Conservation Committee of the Tahoma Audubon Society, and in the education and conservation departments of the Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium and Northwest Trek Wildlife Park. She received her undergraduate degree in Political Science from the University of Washington. Quinn is looking forward to gaining knowledge about local environmental issues and contributing to Coastkeeper’s litigation efforts.

 

Damika Webb, Legal Intern

Damika is currently in her third year at Thomas Jefferson School of Law in San Diego, where she is the alumni co-chair of the Public Interest Law Foundation. Damika received her undergraduate degree in Biology at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia. She also holds a graduate certificate in Public Health from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. Prior to law school and during her first year she worked as researcher and coordinator on military health studies. Damika is currently working on sediment remediation, the Chula Vista Bayfront Master Plan EIR and urban runoff.
