Since the 1970s, Congress has enacted many new environmental laws that enable Baykeeper and other environmental groups to protect and enhance our air, water, and species diversity. California's state laws on the environment also provide a basis for us to improve the air, water, and land quality around the San Diego region and statewide.
Baykeeper keeps a constant eye on protecting and enhancing the current environmental law structure. We lend our name and support to many important issues such as ocean, forest, and river protection; and prevention of cruise ship and sewage pollution. We also alert our members to attempts made to weaken important environmental protections.
