Get Involved

Volunteers are an integral part of the Kelp Education, Monitoring and Restoration Program. Among the current supporters of the program are scuba divers, educators, laboratory assistants and local businesses. We can always use additional help. If you are interested in volunteering with the kelp project in any of the categories below, please contact the SD Coastkeeper's Kelp Biologist at: colleen@sdcoastkeeper.org.

Dive Team SCUBA Divers
We rely on scuba divers with extensive Southern California scuba diving experience to maintain research sites, collect data and help plant lab grown kelp. Divers are trained in research techniques and must provide own scuba gear.

Student Activity Laboratory Assistants
Interested in occasional work helping to prepare student run "eco-Carts" and all necessary supplies for kelp cultivation. No scientific knowledge required, just the desire to get a bit slimy!

Volunteers with Data Sheets Business Community Support
Coastkeeper gladly accepts assistance from local businesses. Examples include providing discounts on dive related supplies, food and drinks for diver trainings, boat/field trips for students, and project related equipment.

The Kelp Program is made possible by the dedication of our many talented volunteers. Thank you for your fantastic support!
