Free training workshops are conducted by the Coastkeeper Biologist periodically throughout the year. To request more information on the project or to inquire about upcoming training sessions, please email Colleen Wisniewski at colleen@sdcoastkeeper.org
What do we provide if you volunteer?
- Organized dives
- Boat trips to research sites
- Training
- Materials needed for data collection
- The opportunity to help out the environment
- and the prospect to meet other people who are interested in being part of a worthy cause.
Diver Requirements
In order to volunteer with the project, divers must meet several prerequisites, some of which are the following:
- Scuba certification from a national-recognized training agency (PADI, NAUI, SSI, etc.)
- Advanced Diver certification (or equivalent) AND 30 hours coldwater diving experience.
- Rescue Diver certification
- Be comfortable diving in sometimes low visibility, high surge conditions.
- Minimum of 4 logged dives within the past 12 months, 2 within the last 6 months
- Attend all training workshops and lectures, including diving safety/skills review.
- Sign Coastkeeper's "Assumption of Risk", "Dive Rules" and "Diver history" forms
- Possess diver's insurance (preferably DAN).
- DAN O2 provider, CPR and First Aid certifications
- Complete Medical Examination for Scuba Diving with Physician Approval (intensive diving medical exams available at a discount)
- SCUBA equipment service (or new gear) within last 12 months
