Project SWELL curriculum teaches our children about the importance of our recreational waterways and human-water interaction through a well-balanced, comprehensive and hands-on water quality and pollution prevention curricula.
The intent of Project SWELL curricula is to foster a sense of environmental stewardship among our children. To make this happen, San Diego Unified School District, City of San Diego and San Diego Coastkeeper have united to enhance the existing science curriculum used with FOSS hands-on science kits. Project SWELL's 5th grade "Water" kit now reaches 10,668 students, 6th grade "Landforms" kit reaches 10,019 students, 4th grade "Ecosystems" kit reaches 10,661 students, and 2nd grade "Pebbles, Sand, and Silt" kit will reach 10,222 students.
With the completion of the 2nd grade curriculum, Project SWELL will be reaching over 40,000 elementary school students annually in San Diego Unified Schools. We are already planning for our next SWELL grade lessons for San Diego Unified Schools District and expanding SWELL to Oceanside Unified School District, which has the potential to reach approximately 20,500 students.
