Baja California Native Communities Drinking Water Survery (BCNC)

The BCNC project is carried out as a collaborative effort between the Ja Jan Coalition, SDSU GSPH and CUNA. The intent of this project is to evaluate whether the drinking water quality in native communities of Baja California meet WHO standards. In addition, this study is providing data to investigate correlations between incidence of gastrointestinal disease in native communities and exceedences in bacterial levels of drinking water.

This study employs a combination of citizen water monitoring techniques and professional laboratory analyses. Water quality monitoring is conducted on a monthly basis at three locations within each of six communities. Parameters measured include: Total coliform, E. coli, pH, turbidity, TDS and nitrate/nitrite levels.
