EPMG to Celebrate National Volunteer Week with Cleanup on April 20

Coastkeeper to coordinate day of service, learning in Pacific Beach

SAN DIEGO, April 16, 2013 – San Diego Coastkeeper and EPMG agree—a beach cleanup is the only way to celebrate National Volunteer Week. On Saturday, April 20, Coastkeeper, which protects and restores fishable, swimmable, drinkable waters, will lead a team of EPMG volunteers through a service and learning project in Pacific Beach. Through Coastkeeper’s Sponsored Cleanup Program, EPMG will host approximately 30 staff from 9 a.m. to noon in a team effort to remove harmful and unsightly debris from the coastline.

National Volunteer Week runs April 21 – 27 with the goal of inspiring, recognizing and encouraging people to seek out imaginative ways to engage in their communities. EPMG’s cleanup will get the company involved with the community, address a serious local environmental issue and improve water quality and beach health. With the summer beach season around the corner, the cleanup gives Pacific Beach a fresh start to welcoming San Diegans and visitors alike.

“We all love San Diego for our beaches and of course, the amazing weather! I feel that giving back and doing our part in keeping the beaches clean is the least we can do. I’m very fortunate have a CEO like Trevor Hansen who is always looking for ways to support volunteerism and giving back. EPMG has supported many nonprofit organizations such as The Breast Cancer Fund, and Street of Dreams, a local non-profit that works with at-risk youth. Working with San Diego Coastkeeper for the beach cleanup is a great way for us to be hands-on and to show our support for our community,” said Stephanie Trinh, marketing coordinator at EPMG.

During the private cleanup event, San Diego Coastkeeper will teach the EPMG team about marine debris, what impact it has on local water quality, and how people can prevent it. In addition to removing debris, volunteers will contribute to valuable data collected by San Diego Coastkeeper, tracking the types and amounts of debris found on San Diego’s beaches.

In 2012, Coastkeeper volunteers removed more than 800 pounds of trash from Pacific Beach. It ranked second in trash volume for San Diego County’s beaches.
