Local smartphone technology provider, Roovy, developed iPhone app for nonprofit
SAN DIEGO, Aug. 23, 2012 – Today, San Diego Coastkeeper, the region’s watchdog for swimmable, fishable and drinkable waters, introduces its second smartphone application. Coastkeeper worked with Roovy, Inc., a local mobile app technology provider, to create an easy way for residents to receive Coastkeeper’s latest news, updates, events, photos and more.
“As people increasingly rely on smartphones to access news and information while on the go, Coastkeeper turned to Roovy to keep pace with these trends and ensure San Diegans have the technology they need to protect, restore and enjoy our waters,” said Megan Baehrens, Coastkeeper’s executive director.Through the app, users have a single source to access Coastkeeper’s blog, event calendar, Twitter feed, YouTube channel, photo gallery, Facebook page and more. Further enhancements, as well as an Android friendly app, are expected to be made available later this year.
“We are confident our technology, which enables users to develop their own mobile apps without programming, will enhance Coastkeeper’s valuable efforts to inform and educate the San Diego community on safeguarding our local waterways,” said Touradj Barman, CEO of Roovy, Inc. “Coastkeeper’s app is a great demonstration of the power of the Roovy technology.”
According to Baehrens, Roovy’s technology saves the organization the cost and inefficiency of relying on an outside developer and offers it an easy-to-use, in-house solution for creating, maintaining and updating its smartphone app. She said, “The Roovy solution is perfect for organizations like ours where resources must be focused on the core mission, but real-time communication of news and developments is also critical.”
Along with the Coastkeeper app, the organization also has a Swim Guide, a smartphone application that shows beachgoers water quality at more than 300 beaches statewide. Both apps are free. Swim Guide is available for both iPhone and Android. The official Coastkeeper app can be downloaded at the App Store.
