Residents invited to free event to swim, kayak, jive to music in Mission Bay Park
SAN DIEGO, July 31, 2012—On August 5, San Diego Coastkeeper hosts Clear Blue 2012 to celebrate swimmable, fishable and drinkable waters in San Diego County and the 40th anniversary of the Clean Water Act.
At the free event from noon – 5 p.m. at Ventura Cove on Mission Bay, participants can enjoy kayak racing from Hike Bike Kayak, music from DJ Electrichead, water games and food in sunny San Diego weather.
The Clean Water Act was established as the basic structure to monitor the discharges of pollution into American creeks, rivers, lakes and ocean and then regulate the quality standards for those bodies of water. Clean Blue 2012 will help San Diego Coastkeeper spread awareness of water quality issues in San Diego, while enjoying the county’s aquatic playground that drives the tourism economy.
Clear Blue 2012 will take place on Mission Bay’s Ventura Cove (just north east of the restroom) from noon until 5 p.m. on Sunday, August 5. Along with music and fun water activities, the event will feature free food and good company.
DJ Electrichead from East Village San Diego, known for the freshest in nu-disco, house and spacey jams, will entertain the crowd with his latest musical creations. Check out his mashups on his SoundCloud account.
Participants can also compete in friendly kayak and swimming races to win fun prizes. All of the event’s donations will go to protect and restore San Diego’s swimmable, fishable and drinkable waters.
Coastkeeper thanks KEEN Footware, Ralphs, Trader Joe’s, Hike Bike Kayak and Sprouts for making the event possible. The event is free and open to the public.
